In 1985, the Kirklands planted a 3 acre test vineyard. In the years that followed, with over 142 acres planted, Kirkland Ranch Winery produced its first estate wine onsite in 1998 and opened their beautiful rustic lodge property to the public in October 1999.
As quality and quantity of production continued, the Kirkland family became a grape-growing resource for some of the larger, world-renown wineries in Napa and Sonoma.
At the Kirkland Ranch Winery, you'll find a down-to-earth, unpretentious lifestyle built from generations of a strong family who traditionally work their land and cattle. The five generations of Kirkland family members currently involved with the day to day operation of the winery look forward to sharing their legacy with you.
Kirkland Ranch is one of those feel-good, family-owned vineyards in Napa. From the moment you walk into their tasting room, you know you've come to a place where good wine and customer service are family virtues.
Kirkland carries a varied menu of wines with prices that range from inexpensive to reasonably priced. And, they produce strong reds as well as whites.
Our favorite Kirkland Ranch white is undoubtedly the Kirkland Ranch Chardonnay. Aged in oak barrels, Kirkland Ranch is staying true to the traditional California Chardonnay: a florabunda and pear introduction with a buttery finish. A crowd favorite is their late harvest Semillion and Sauvignon Blanc blend they have aptly labeled "Agape" (Latin for love). This nectar-like wine is one of their more popular wines, but it is pricey... selling for about $40 for a half bottle.
Of the reds, we pick the Kirkland Ranch Sangiovese. This traditional Italian blended red is one of Kirkland's best kept secrets. A bold red, it is still mellow enough to compliment just about any meal. A close second, and their most affordable bottle, is their table red: Cowboy Red. For the price, this California table red is one of the best bottles you can buy. Share it with your friends and let them believe you spent a lot of money on it!
